Mobile Satellite Internet

As demand for reliable internet service has surged, so has the need for mobile satellite internet service. For a true mobile solution, consideration of desired applications needs to be addressed. The definition of mobile satellite internet can be very different from one application to the next. Whether traveling across the ocean or across the country, each requirement will present communication challenges.

Pleasure use on a yacht or RV typically requires a more basic level of connectivity. Some prefer continuous coverage where others demand a connection only when stationary. This consideration of seamless mobile vs. mobile access at various destinations greatly impacts the cost of mobile satellite internet systems. For seamless coverage an auto-tracking system is required. When service is required in fixed location, an auto acquire antenna is typically chosen. This allows the user minimal technical expertise of pointing the antenna to a range of satellites. These systems are often shared satellite access which offer more cost effective mobile satellite internet service.

For maritime mobile requirements, the need can range depending on the exact company. For freight companies basic communications is sufficient to share basic information, sometimes simply radio transmissions are sufficient. With the individual dependence on access to internet, those aboard aren’t likely thrilled with a lack of access. There are a range of systems available depending on the level of service required. Typically an auto-tracking antenna is desired because the ship or boat is always moving and rarely stationary for long periods of time. For cruise ships with thousands of passengers in addition to the large number of crew members, overlapping mobile internet access is demanded.

For news gathering providing live video feeds, instant access and a dedicated stable connection, typically a dedicated platform, will be required for front line reporting and uploading video where no other infrastructure exists. The mobile internet satellite system must be auto-acquiring but not tracking.

Emergency management and disaster recovery are needed in every corner of the globe and constantly shift. Once disaster strikes any existing communications platforms are typically nonexistent. The only option that makes sense is mobile satellite internet, providing flexibility, mobility and adaptability.

There is a broad range of mobile satellite internet providers available depending on your application, location and mobile needs.
