Constellation has chosen several solutions to chose from depending on your network topology.
Shared vs. Dedicated Satellite Services
There seems to be a debate lately over what dedicated service really is. The definition has been blurred with the increase in shared service options. We'll start with definitions to attempt to clarify the differences.Shared Satellite Internet Service
Many shared services offer a portion of "dedicated bandwidth", while at the same time providing burstable access to a shared "pool" of bandwidth. This is accomplished by taking dedicated bandwidth and re-allocating, based on various parameters determined by a Hub operator, to allow "sharing" of the bandwidth. This bandwidth is typically referred to as CIR or Committed Information Rate. Basically the CIR is allocated to a site as long as is actively using the bandwidth, otherwise it is available for use by the sites on the network as part of the burstable access, hence creating the cost effective shared platform that has become so popular.CNC offers a TDMA shared solution powered by iDirect, which offers a cost effective way to gain a small amount of CIR, committed information rate, while offering access to a larger network with accessibility determined by the other users on the platform.
Dedicated Satellite Internet Service
This is a point to point link that is not shared and available for use 100% of the time. When such bandwidth is not being utilized, it is not allocated elsewhere, it remains inactive awaiting use.A dedicated SCPC solution offers more diverse options with full duplex or symmetrical link options. Carrier in carrier technology takes SCPC to the next level with the ability to reduce the required bandwidth on a circuit.
