VSAT

Satellite communication typically uses VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) systems at remote locations to provide internet access. Such terminals are used in communication of voice, data, and video. These systems can be fixed or mobile, shared or dedicated and are comprised of multiple components. Each terminal is developed for the VSAT network service platform it will operate on. This includes a range of frequency as well as various service platforms. Options now include the ability to migrate platforms to allow a lower cost of entry service with the flexibility to grow on this platform, eventually into a dedicated point to point service. Understanding the full project scale is key to making accurate VSAT technology recommendations.

VSATs are comprised of 2 main components. The ODU (Outdoor Unit) which includes the transceiver or BUC as well as the antenna and LNB that is placed outside with a direct line of site to the satellite and also an IDU (Indoor Unit) that communicates with the ODU and consists of the satellite modem.

Because of the broad range of satellites, equipment and service available, the exact VSAT gear is determined by running a link budget analysis, LBA, created to ensure satellite link integrity. The teleport gear, satellite details, remote location and service details are needed to determine the recommended minimum equipment. Plans for growth are key components in correctly sizing the VSAT equipment.

As a provider of both VSAT services and support as well as a full service VSAT provider, we have the capability and experience to build a solution to meet your specific service needs. The more we understand your needs and migration or growth expectations, the better we can scale your VSAT technology to achieve your vision. Because of the cost involved in not only purchasing VSAT systems but also in shipping them worldwide, this is a purchase that you only want to make once. Let us help design the ideal VSAT system for you satellite communication needs.
